Summer Prep: Warm Weather Remedies
Camping, boating, beachside picnics or touring the city streets. So many adventures in the summer but these activities also generally come with some issues. We continue our Summer Prep Series for this blog and discuss tips for wherever your summer takes you. Read on for our skin care tips and tricks to take along for your travels or staycation.
Bug bites
Use an icepack on the bug bite which will help to reduce swelling and itching. You can apply hydrocortisone cream to help with severe itching and try to resist scratching the area. Once the bite is healed, work on brightening the skin to reduce hyperpigmentation and scarring. Vitamin C and sunscreen will be your best friend in the healing process helping to even out the skin tone. We love: IMAGE MD Restoring Power-C Serum.
Sunburn
Prevention is key here. Prepare your bag with a zinc sunscreen (check the expiration dates) and apply before sun exposure. Look for wide brimmed hats and UPF rated protective clothing for even more coverage. We love to apply TIZO Ultra Zinc Body & Face Sunscreen.
In the event that you do get a little too much sun, apply a cool compress and aloe to soothe the sunburn. Avoid exfoliation or any professional treatments until your sunburn is fully healed and be sure to stay out of the sun while the skin is healing.
Hyperpigmentation
Brown spots, uneven skin tone, melasma and hyperpigmentation from scars or blemishes can appear more prominent in the summer months. We recommend starting with microneedling and topical vitamin C. Studies show tinted zinc is optimal for melasma. We love this one: Ultra Zinc Body and Face Sunscreen Tinted SPF 40

Appearance of large pores
Warmer weather leads to an increase in perspiration and can contribute to the appearance of larger pores or congested skin. Keep up your exfoliation at home and book a microneedling treatment. We also love our Super 3 which contains 3 gentle esters of vitamin A and can be applied (as directed) on summer evenings without causing extra photosensitivity during the day. Vitamin A supports collagen formation & remodeling while balancing oil production. Together these attributes assist in the reduction of the appearance of large pores.
Hair removal tips
Show off your skin with the side benefit of facial hair removal with our Dermaplane treatment.
This unique approach removes dead skin cells and vellous hair revealing newer, younger looking skin. Dermaplaning also stimulates the production of fresh, young skin cells, while helping your skin to breathe easier. A win-win for your face all around! For your body, be sure to use a fresh razor - avoid dull ones to prevent nics and cuts. Shave with a hydrating shave cream containing shea butter or opt for waxing/ sugaring which lasts anywhere from 2-6 weeks!
We would love to hear which tips you learned in this blog! Let us know in the comments.
