Skincare For Men

Men need skincare just as much as women and as the research and education around skin care has evolved over the years so has the demand for the latest solutions for all genders. My dad once told me he used his shampoo to wash his face and that was the extent of his facial care. As an esthetician I have to admit I cringed a little. Today’s skin care for men is far more than dad's shampoo. Read on to see some simple but effective ways men can take care of their skin.

Men have a set of different skin issues which have the potential to arise due to an increased amount of follicles in the facial area. The beard area can develop folliculitis, a condition in which the follicle becomes inflamed causing blemishes, irritation and redness. Keeping the face clean and hydrated is key. Booking a consultation is a great way to start to see which type of treatment plan is best for this condition.

For home care, cleansing with something gentle at the end of the day or after a workout is a great first step. Depending on the skin type, choose a foaming cleanser for oily skin or more of a creamy formula for dry and sensitive skin.

Apply an antioxidant serum during the day. Something lightweight that absorbs without leaving too much residue is a great option and will help to reduce signs of aging and damage. We love the soothing gel texture of the Constitution Copper DNA Serum

One of the first areas to show fine lines is the eye area and the In Focus Eye Cream is a great choice. Apply a small amount of this gel in the AM or PM around the crows feet area.

For those with dry skin, we recommend the Cocoon Moisturizing Cream morning and evening. This hydrator will replenish and soothe the skin.

Lastly, sun protection in the daytime is essential.

Did you know 57 percent of people diagnosed with skin cancer are men?

According to skincancer.org, men are more likely to develop melanoma which is the most deadly form of skin cancer. Check out the chart referenced from their article here:

We recommend a physical sun protection product such as our non tinted TIZO Ultra Zinc Body & Face Sunscreen. It is suitable for all skin types and skin tones and vanishes on the skin. Bonus: it’s also hydrating so it can be the one skin care step done before leaving the house.

If you’re already seeing the effects of years of neglect, don’t worry because there are professional treatments available to jump start your facial care. Whether you’re a man reading this or you have a man in your life that needs some guidance, a series of microneedling treatments or chemical peels may be the perfect solution. Book a consultation with us here at Fine Line and see what treatment plan is best for your skin.
